Innovation Micro-Certification

Overview

UK Innovate Micro-Certification offers short, online asynchronous courses focusing on the fundamentals of impact research, commercialization, and implementation. This program equips learners with essential, high-level knowledge to navigate the evolving landscape of research and innovation.


Badges & Certificates

The Micro-Certification is divided into three themes: Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship. All three themes have the opportunity to earn a digital badge. Completion of all three themes will earn the learner a certificate of completion.


Themes

Innovation:
Growth Mindset in Innovation: This course explores how adopting a growth mindset can enhance innovation by encouraging continuous learning, resilience, and adaptability in individuals and teams. 

Impact Research: This course discusses the role of impact vs Impact in research, where capital I Impact looks to incorporate the community from the very beginning.

Building Impact Research: During this course, participants will gain a better understanding of ‘traditional’ research, translational research, and use-inspired research.

Commercialization:
Idea to Impact: This course is an overview of the journey an idea/early-stage technology takes from the lab, through the Technology Commercialization process, and ultimately into the community.

Protecting Your Idea: This course provides an overview of intellectual property (IP) in the innovation space, highlighting what exactly IP is and is not.

Social Innovation to Effectuate Impact: This course provides an overview of social innovation and how it can be commercialized/disseminated into the larger community to provide tangible benefit to the population.

Entrepreneurship:
Engaging Stakeholders: This course outlines how to identify key stakeholders and strategies for engaging them effectively throughout the innovation process.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: This course overviews the concept of entrepreneurial ecosystems, detailing the various types that support entrepreneurial activity.

Who’s Writing the Checks: This course explores various types of innovation funding, giving an overview on where to find potential support for their technology.

Commercialization Planning in Grants: This course introduces concepts related to writing forward looking commercialization strategy sections in basic science and translational research grants.
